How Do I Adopt?
Our priority, first and foremost, is for the animals under our care. Their best interest is always kept in mind when anyone shows interest in adopting them. We do not operate on a "first come, first serve" basis and all potential adopters are screened.
The RTRS adoption process is as follows:
1. An adoption application must be submitted for the animal you are interested in.
2. If approved, a meet-and-greet is scheduled with the animal you are interested in. Please allow up to 48 hours for a response from the time an application is submitted.
3. If everything goes well we will schedule a home check. Typically, the animal is brought to this process and if you pass the adoption is finalized in your home. In some cases the home check will be completed and the adoption finalized at our adoption center.
4. Once an animal is adopted, we are here for life. We are always happy and willing to answer any questions you may have. We love to hear how our adopted animals are doing, so please feel free to contact us and let us know. Success stories are our favorite!

1. Why do you require a home check?
Home checkes are beneficial for all involved. They give us the opportunity to ensure the animal is going to a save, suitable environment. It gives the animal the chance to explore their new environment with someone they are familiar and comfortable with. And it gives the adopter a chance to see the animal in their home, ask any questions, receive valuable information regarding their new family member and how to help them transition.
2. What are you looking for when you do a home check?
This varies depending on the species you are adopting from us. For dogs, our main focus is the fence. Cats and exotics we are looking for the proper environment and essential items for their care.
3. What are your adoption fees?
Adult Dogs (>1 year old) -- $200
Puppies (<1 year old) -- $250
All of our dogs/puppies come completely up to date on all veterinary care. This includes all necessary vaccinations (for puppies this includes ALL vaccinations for the first year) like DH2PPV (parvo and distemper), rabies and bordatella (kennel cough), microchip, spay/neuter, and the removal of any baby teeth that would not fall out on their own (common in small breed dogs).
**Please Note -- These adoption fees are not set in stone. Some breeds of dogs require additional testing and may have a higher adoption fee.
Cats -- $60
All of our cats receive the recommended vaccinations, microchip and spay/neuter.
The adoption fee for exotics and small animals varies. Please contact us for more information.
